World Peace Temple

Kadampa Meditation Center & World Peace Temple

“Just seeing these precious temples places on our mind stream powerful potentialities to meet holy dharma and complete the path to liberation.” – Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche

The US World Peace Temple at KMC NY arose from the vision and compassionate intention of Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche as part of the International Temples Project. The Temple was designed and built under his guidance to represent the celestial palace of Heruka, Buddha of Compassion.

Hundreds of thousands of people have spent many hours meditating and training their mind in this holy temple. Its holy architecture, Buddha statues and unique artwork endow the structure with a tranquil beauty that uplifts us and inspires us.

The temple at KMC New York is the venue for the Northeast Dharma Celebration. This peaceful and blessed building nestled in 82 acres of Catskills woodlands, with quiet sitting places, streams, gardens, ponds and walking trails, is a perfect place to get away for a spiritual vacation.

The Amenities

In addition to the US World Peace Temple and grounds, KMC New York offers a variety of comfortable but simple accommodations and delicious vegetarian and vegan meals. The World Peace Cafe is located in the Lodge, where visitors can enjoy locallly roasted coffee and espresso drinks, homemade baked goods (including vegan and wheat-free options), cold drinks and other goodies.

In between sessions, visitors are also welcome to browse the bookstore and gift shop located in the Temple, where they can find the texts and prayer booklets used during the Dharma Celebration and other items to help with our meditation practice.
